1st Battalion The
Royal Regiment of Scotland, more usually known as 1 SCOTS, is Scotland’s oldest
infantry battalion, with a proud connection to Edinburgh and the Borders dating
back as far as 1633.
The Battalion returned home
to Edinburgh from a demanding operational tour in Iraq in May 2008, and from
early 2009 to late 2010 is contributing to the NATO mission in Southern
Afghanistan.
Regrettably, a number of 1
SCOTS soldiers have already paid the ultimate sacrifice over recent months, and
others have been dreadfully wounded.
The ‘1 SCOTS Soldiers and
Families Fund’ has been established by the battalion to support
soldiers who have suffered serious injury whilst on operations, and to assist
the families of those killed.
It is intended to compliment
rather than replace the work of the wonderful Service Charities who provide
such brilliant support to us, by allowing us to give immediate support to
soldiers and their families in the first few devastating hours and days
following a fatality or serious injury.
